TREKKING IN NANDA DEVI HIMALAYA

The centrepiece of the Garhwal region is undoubtedly the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. Until 1934, the gorge of the Rishi ganga river and the immediate area around Nanda Devi peak was one of the least known and most inaccessible parts of the Himalayan region. In the Sanctuary, the mountains stand in a vast amphitheater, seventy miles in circumference and

Nanda Devi in the highest peak in the Indian Garhwal Himalaya. The mountain has two summits, the main summit at 7816m (25,643ft) and Nanda Devi East at 7434m (24,389ft). The mountain itself in surrounded by a number of peaks over 21,000ft, making it an extremely difficult mountain to access. This circle of peaks forms what is known as the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.

In the vicinity of Nanda Devi is situated the Nanda Devi National Park, which has some of the most unique high altitude flora and fauna in the world.

The spectacular views, sylvan environment, and richness of biosphere make it quite different from the other wildlife sanctuaries of India.

The park has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. The Government of India declared it later Biosphere Reserve.

All these status were given to save the park from tourists disturbances and pollution:

the fame and mystic of the area led to an excess of expeditions and ecological damage. The Sanctuary was closed in 1984.

Since may 2003, it is open again under very strict rules.

TREKKING IN NANDA DEVI SANCTUARY

The Himalayan foothills are just ideal for trekking, Hiking and Camping offering energetic out-door people a different and exciting option for a Adventure holiday. The Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttaranchal are the most popular destinations for trekkers, though Chamba and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Dajeeling & Sikkim himalayas in the north east and Ladakh and Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir, have interesting trekking routes as well.

Nanda Devi areas have attracted geologists, geographers, Trekkers and lovers of nature. They have a strange fascination for artists, poets, photographers and mystics. They are a paradise for Trekkers and mountaineers and are the cradle of thousands of rivers, streams and glaciers.

ECOTOURISM IN NANDA DEVI

has been officially promoted already for years in this area, for pilgrimages to the Badrinath temple or Hemkund Sahib, for trekkings and any other outdoor activities...Pollution is now a main concern in many other parts of Himalaya,

around the Mt. Everest in the first line.

What do we do concrete about this?

With Nandadevi Trekking one porter goes on the treks to look after the dirt,

to clean and bring it down, and this works... You can see it!

Adventure Trekking has also begun a cleaning program in & around the local villages of the Nanda Devi National Park, with the agreement of the Uttaranchal Forest Department.

In the past, one of the great initiative to promote eco-tourism has been the creation of the

Nandadevi Second Highest peak of Indian Himalayas

The two peak massif of Nanda Devi is the highest mountain in the Garhwal Himalayas and the second highest (after Kanchenjunga) in the whole of India. The tremendously unapproachable basin has been named the ‘Nanda Devi Sanctuary’. The Rishi Ganga River originates here and then flows down from Nanda Devi to create a deep valley.

Nanda Devi East (7434 m) is a supreme summit which closes the Sanctuary from the east. It is joined to the main summit by a spiky, 3 km edge almost entirely at a height of over 7000 m. For the Hindi people, Nanda Devi is a blessed mountain, the name of which can be translated as follows: Nanda is one of the nicknames of the Goddess of Death, the wife of Shiva, while Devi means ‘Goddess’. This region have been recognized has one of the most beautiful land in the mountain ranges and dense forest has immense opportunities for adventure. Trekking options in Garhwal are unlimited. They are not bound by any season

CLIENT SPEAK...!!

Clients comment for nandadevi trekking :  “I would like to say, that I have trekked in Nandadevi India and of all the trips I have done, “We had a great time in nanda devi. The Nandadevi inner line trekking arrangements especially were very nice  ”

Nanda Devi, whose name means sacred Goddess, is the highest mountain in India. It is a huge white double pyramid overlooking the sacred Garhwal province. Nanda Devi rises from a gigantic ring of high mountains that form the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, an amphitheater seventy miles in perimeter and 6000 m high, adjacent the Rishiganga valley. Only once in this massive cirque does the elevation drop below 5200 m. constant early efforts to reach the inner sanctuary failed. Bill Tilman finally reached the sanctuary in 1934 w

With Eric Shipton, and then Tilman climbed to the summit in 1936 with Noel Odell. With this ascent, Nanda Devi became the highest peak attained by man, a record which remained until the 1950 ascent of Annapurna
